Vertex Innovations is serving as the owner’s representative on the 18,000 square-foot mobile switching center (MSC) expansion for one of the largest wireless carriers in the nation. Upon completion, the mission-critical facility will accommodate the client’s high-density concept with a 7,000 square-foot switch and network room; electrical, UPS and battery rooms; and two 3,000kW generators.
As an owner’s representative, we take a proactive and value-driven approach to construction oversight and quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC). We focus on ensuring on-time delivery, installation integrity and superior quality. Our success in partnering with the general contractor, trades and architect has led to the following improvements:
- Optimized Project Schedule – By leveraging expertise in mechanical and electrical engineering, we collaborated with the contractor to accelerate the project timeline by three months. This expedited project completion and enabled the client to realize operational benefits sooner. The project schedule was further adjusted to accommodate early acceptance of the project’s generators, which helped the client avoid a costly $75,000 storage fee.
- Material Cost Savings – An error by the shipping courier left the client missing a key material for the project. We meticulously documented the delivery of the project materials in real time, which proved crucial in helping the client avoid an unnecessary $15,000 expenditure on repurchasing the item.
- MEP Verification – As owner’s representative, we developed a comprehensive engineering checklist tool to ensure the reliability of the switchroom’s computer room air conditioning units. The tool was essential in validating the contractor’s mechanical, engineering, and plumbing (MEP) calculations, confirming that the power and cooling loads were adequate for the client’s operational needs. The switchroom cooling project was led in conjunction with the broader site expansion to ensure critical infrastructure remained protected.
- QA/QC Management – The data center’s electrical and mechanical systems are critical to operations. We conducted thorough QA/QC inspections to confirm all installations met the client’s stringent standards and design requirements. This rigorous oversight contributed to the project’s overall quality and performance.
