This commitment enables us to deliver predictable success for our clients.
The History of Vertex
Vertex Innovations was founded in 2003 by Wayne and Erica Smith at the request of Verizon Wireless, one of the nation’s largest wireless carriers. What began with managing the integration of a mobile switching center from Mountain Bell into Verizon’s network has since evolved into a national construction consulting firm. Today, we provide program and project management, construction oversight, network engineering, project staffing, and managed software services for over 30,000 projects across the country.
What Drives Us
The Past
Vertex Innovations was established following the successful integration of Mountain Bell’s mobile switching center into the Verizon network in 2003. In 2006, the company took on the full lifecycle management of Verizon’s greenfield data center project in Utah, overseeing everything from site acquisition and design to contractor selection and construction. Once completed, Vertex was tasked with installing telecommunications equipment and bringing the site online, successfully migrating 380 cell sites to the new switch with zero downtime. Since then, Vertex has supported the construction and technical aspects of Verizon’s network infrastructure needs, including switch migrations, network integrations, and carrier acquisitions.
As Verizon has grown and evolved, so has Vertex, assisting in the seamless integration of new technologies including IX, 3G, 4G, and 5G networks. Vertex has also played a vital role in the deployment of neutral host Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS) for venues including Chase Center, U.S. Bank Stadium, Mall of America, and the Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport.
Wayne and his wife, Erica, quickly recognized that the high level of service they provided to Verizon could be replicated to help other clients build, grow, and maintain their network infrastructure more efficiently. This insight has been a driving force behind our success, leading us to where we are today.
